looking at a older semi-auto 243 cal rifle. looking at the BAR and the Remington 742. I know the BAR has the sexier following, what do the experts think if you compare the two, thanks.

In terms of durability and reliability, I would go for the BAR hands down. Once a 742 gets a little long in the tooth, all bets are off. Remington for years offered rebate coupons on the 742's when they were brought in for major repair...kinda tells me they know of the inherent issues and the 750 now supposedly does away with them. Having said that, I know of many people who swear by their 742's...keep them meticulously maintained and they seem to be OK. My shoice is still the BAR; plenty accurate for an older autoloader.

I've owned the 742,7400,and the BAR. i've killed Deer with all of them. the BAR is the better made,of the 3. All in 30-06. Also have 2, 308 Bars. Great Rifles.

Still shooting my Dad's Belgian Grade II BAR in .243. That rifle has killed enough deer to feed Ethiopa. Incredibly accurate

I've been a Remington man for a long time but I owned a BAR in .308 and it was very accurate. The recoil was barely noticeable and the trigger was excellent...I would go Browning hands down...bull
