SMLE front sight
One of my No. 1 Mk. III Enfields shoots about a foot high at 100 yards. Doesn't seem to matter what load I use, 150 grain and 174 grain bullets make no difference. I've got the windage adjustable rear sight on it and that prevents me from lowering the rear sight below the 200 yard line so I need to find a replacement front sight that is higher or find a good way to build up the present one. Already checked with Brownell's and they don't have one. Any suggestions on where to find a higher replacement front sight or the best method to build up the current one?

I poked around Numrich Arms and found nothing - is that type front sight blade unique to the No1 MkIII?
What are the dimensions of the front sight dovetail cut? It seems to me getting an uncut blade on a dovetail- very tall and squared off, ready for filing - would be the way to go if an Enfield specific isn't available. I know Numrich has them for Mauser rifles, don't know if the dovetail would fit.
This is just a bit of a guess, but a blade front sight for a Winchester 62 or 63 is quite high and would have alot of blade to be fiddled with, could be used as a donor.
As an alternative, building up the issue front sight with a few drops of weld would work, you could then file to fit and duracoat black.0 -
