REM 7 or 673
Is there any reason that you could not/should not rebarrel a mod 7, or 673 to .450 Marlin??? Don't ask why!!! COL, head dia. seem to work. Assuming you start with either the SAUM, or a 6.5/350 rem mag. action. Or if you wanted to go through the trouble, start with .458 Win Mag cases, cut and trim to 2", or a little more, then resize with custom die to bring case taper, and mouth to the appropriate dia. Any better ideas? THX hawkshaw

Not that I see...seems like it would work once the feed rails were adjusted. I think you would be well served to check out the work Frank Barnes did on the 308 and 458 "1 1/2 and "2 rounds. The 458 x "2 seems to come close to what you are trying to achieve. 0 -

Sorry...finding Mr Barnes at this point is a matter of locating the correct cemetary as he departed this earth about 15 years ago. He was the guy who originally edited Cartridges of the World which has been taken over by, I believe, McPherson. Frank did a bunch of research in the 60's as to a better stopping/jungle cartridge than the 5.56. The shortened 308 showed enough promise that the US military actually considered it pretty strongly for a time. I believe ammunition supply fears ended all interest in this series of cartridges. I think it is interesting to note how close the 458 SoCom and 450 Bushmaster are to his original 458 "1 1/2 and "2 which were done on, I think, a 458 Win Mag trimmed to length. Anyway, the older versions of the COTW books will have a nice rundown of the series for you. As an aside, I really only meant to bring up the similarities in these big bore 45 rounds to the work Mr Barnes did about 40 years prior. Everything old is new again! 0
