I believe the patent date will actually be Nov 17, 08. Remove the grips and the serial number will be repeated on the left grip strap with a letter prefix added, which will identify model and year made. Is it a hammer or hammerless?

    Thanks for replying HRF....

I removed the grips and yes, there is a letter in front of the serial #. Actual serial is E158XX. That patent date on the front sure looks like 1903- but I guess it could be an "8" if the strike didn't connect completely. Also- the gun has a full hammer & wood checkered grips( very small grips).

Third model small frame made in 1914. This was well into the smokeless powder period, but your gun will last longer if standard velocity 22s are used. Photos in the late Bill Goforth's book also show the 08 poorly stamped or maybe a defective die, but text for each reads 08.

    appreciate the info!

I know there isn't much value in these guns- but seems to be a pretty good little revolver. Nice bore, tight cylinder, etc...
