I would stick with a fixed 2X or 2.5X scope if you want to get on a running target quickly inside of 100yds. FOV (field of view) is what you are most concerned about in heavy cover and quick shooting. If you need to check for horns (legal buck), go with a variable 2X-7X scope. Keep it on 2X for normal hunting, crank up to 7X to check horn size.

Burris 2-7x shotgun scope. It will do all you want to do, and the reticle will not fall out of it like the Bushnell's, Simmons, and Tasco's. You will have much better glass to boot.

To be honest, any of the other three I mentioned, will, at sometime cause you to go and buy another better scope anyway, when they fall apart. They just can't stand the recoil.

only reason i posted simmions is

    1. i have ushed it for YEARS on 12ga and .50 cal BP muzzleloader

    2. he said he did not want to spent a ton

yes there are flaws in buying cheap scopes but i personally had good luck with the pro diamond

Thanks, The scope I have on the gun now gave me a nice gash on the nose so its "time for change"

Those 12 ga slugs can kick it!

you can get a used leupold vxII 1-4 for $125 or so
the VX-III 1.5-5 is much better but is $300 or more used
either one is better than simmons
    have not tried the burris.

nothing wrong with a fixed 2.5 like the man said either

Agree with Red Dot...I have used for last 4 years and will never go back. I also shoot 100 yards in and they are just deadly.!

Not closing any doors I have a couple of red dots on my .22's and they are good!

Never thought of using one on my slug gun.
