gun sales to California

I see sellers on Gunbroker mention in their description that NO SALES TO CALIF./ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT SHIP TO CALIF. Can someone tell me what the big hangup is to ship to an FFL in Calif. I know what kind of wacko mentality they have but was just wondering how big a deal and why it is so difficult to send a firearm to Calif. Glad I live in Idaho. just curious and appreciate any info. Thanks Terrill.

    If an FFL dealer mails a firearm to a CA FFL dealer they have to get an "OK number" from the state. It's done on line and takes a few minutes. If the sender is not an FFL they don't have to to this, if the receiver is not an FFL Dealer the sender doesn't need to do this even if they are an FFL Dealer. I have a C & R FFL, a + 50 year old C & R long gun can be sent to me without the "OK number". But unlike most states I can't receive C & R handguns directly and that brings up the other issue - CA has complicated laws regarding what can and can not be sent into the state.

    For example, 51 year old Python can easily be sent to an FFL, a 30 year old Python may not and a new stainless one is - so long as it's the correct model number. Then we have our contrived AW laws and high cap magazine "ban" that still allows in all the parts.

    Expecting most people to keep track of all these things (or feel they're puting their business and freedom on the line) when alot of LE and dealers cannot leads many folks to say "aw the hell with it" and that's probably the intent of the laws anyway.

    I wish more people would sell to CA, it's a huge market - maybe when a few court cases go our way things will get better. The idiot politicans (that most CA gun owners do not vote for) are hopeless.

    With all due respect, this same question has literally been asked and answered hundreds of times. Until California politicians get their heads out of their butts, don't expect things to change anytime soon.

    People are mostly making a political stand; the actual requirements to ship a firearm to CA are very few. If the person doing the shipping is a non licensee then there are no restrictions; simply ship in the standard manner to any CA dealer. If you are an FFL dealer then you need to spend three minutes on the CA DOJ website, enter the CA dealer's ID number, the number of guns you are sending him and then the DOJ will send you a shippers invoice number. Place the number on the invoice going to the CA dealer and you are finished.

    If you do a substantial amount of business with CA you can register with the CA DOJ, sign into the site, and be done in 60 seconds. If you want to go on a single transaction basis then it takes about three minutes.

    I agree with Spider; this has been covered hundreds of times so there is really no reason to drag it out again.
