Location of Colt Serial #

I have a Detective Special that appears to be from the late 60's or early 70's. I cannot find a serial #. Where should it be located?

Open the cylinder and look on the portion of the frame that was concealed by the cylinder yoke

If it has stocks that cover grip frame, take them off to see if their is a serial number on the butt or front area if the grip frame.
