    Thanks I just checked with a guy that happens to be selling that gun and he says that his dosen't have the release lever, it just pulls off. Were there higher grade models made of the J. Stevens 335 mabey?

    yes, i think so. i have seen both types.

    Ok, I'll be looking in that direction, so far I can't find one that has the metal release. Thanks again and please post anything more that might help. I have a von lengerke & detmold "knockabout" 12 guage that looks like it but its at the gunsmiths so I can't check it.

    I will get you some pics in a day or two. It is a Crescent Firearm forearm from Norwich, Conn. They used over 276 names on their guns. I have some sxs shotguns with that exact piece one them. Al
