How do you put a Mercury vial(?) in a gunstock to reduce recoil?

I've installed quite a few of the "plug" type - just drill out a hole long enough and of wide enough diameter to fit and drop it in. I make the hole just a touch too deep and use a small disc of rubber under the recoil pad to keep it from moving.

To tell the truth, I don't notice a whole lot of difference - have them in mostly 375 H & H caliber and up rifles.

Also, the can change the balance of the rifle especially if put in something short and light. Drop one into a Marlin Guide Gun and you'll feel very, very butt heavy

I have used them in 12 ga skeet guns--Remington 1187 Preimers and such. We just put them in the stock hole under the butt pad.

I had one gun (?) that I thought needed some weight forward--put a mercury reducer in the magazine tube instead of a plug limiting the number of rounds in the magazine.
