    62fuelie,

Are also installing pillars? Not sure what your objectives are, but to ring the most accuracy out of it, pillars are a must. They stabalize the launching platform, and relieve any inherent stress the bedding applies to the action.

As long as you are doing any bedding work to a Pre-64, it turns it into a shooter, not a collector.

Yes, I would remove the trigger group, to keep the gunk out of it.

Thanks, everyone. That's what I thought would be the best way. This is a 1963 .243 Varminter that was just great until my "gunsmith" decided to do me a favor and touch up the one flaw in the barrel finish. Now it has a completely stainless steel finish. I have kept the factory stock untouched and am bedding in a laminate from Richards. Waiting to see if there is a cost-effective way to replicate the iron-plated-then-blued original.
