buying a handgun at new york gun show??

how does this work. Because unlike otherstates you have to get a slip from the dealer take it to the sheriff than take it back to pick up the gun. How does this work at a gun show?? Do they have to ship the gun at a later date to you or the dealer??

    If you don't have a NY State handgun permit, it will have to be shipped to your FFL dealer.

    i have a new york permit just go it. So at gun show they will let you walk away with it and you can register it later? Cause like i said normally if you go to say gander mtn and buy a gun you pick what you want they give you some sort of receipt you take that to sheriff, sheriff gives you a coupon and you go back and pick it up. Just wondering if they have a work around at the gun show

    OK, yes you need a purchase coupon. A dealer can't give you the gun without it. The procedure depends on your county. Some counties will give you a coupon BEFORE you go to the show so you can take the gun right away. Other counties won't give you a coupon until you take your receipt into them but, of course, they're closed on weekends so it's more of a pain to go back and get your gun. Check with your local permit office.

    kind of what I thought I Live in watertown which is like an hour from Syracuse where a big show is next month. And it would be impractable to go to gun show buy a gun run back then run back again, but thats even if they were open. So thanks Ill call the sheriff. Took 15 months to get the permit I am happy. I did have a 6 month deployment in there so it still took 8-9 months DAMNN

    Sorry to invade your topic. Spent a week in Watertown one day (as Harry Chapin would say) When is the Syracuse show nest month as I will be in the area. Now back to the real question.

    NY is a pain in the butt state as there is absolutely no consistency in the handgun purchase process. I don't know the procedure in Jefferson County. You might have to buy the gun, get a receipt, go to the clerk for your purchase coupon, and then go to wherever the dealer is located to pick up your gun. Make sure the dealer isn't from out of state or you'll also have to have it shipped to your local dealer.
