buying a rifle
hey guys I am thinking about buying a Marlin,xlt-7 30-06 Bolt, Barrel and scope are camo plastic stock they are asking $324.75 would like to know if this a good deal thanks[:)]

I think those are a good deal. At that price, more-so. I was impressed by the accuracy out of the box I saw from them. I do believe this model was introduced by Marlin after they were bought by Remington. It shows a lot of Rem 700 influence. I may be wrong but I also think this rifle has a barrel nut like the Savages. That too is a pretty solid system. I certainly like it better than Remington's pressed barrel series of rifles. 0 -

The best Savage group, a stunning one tenth of one inch CTC 5 shot group @ 100 yards with Stars & Stripes 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip ammo: fabulously good, if not amazing with a hunting rifle.

I have personally shot one in 30-06, but with the scope swapped out for a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x BDC. The rifle is extremely user friendly, and very accurate. It has influences of both Savage, and Remington...go figure...doesn't Remington, or their parent company own Marlin?

No, I meant everything I said. Although, I have to say "outstanding group" BTW.
Savage still gets my nod for out of the box accuracy too. And that includes: Remington, Winchester, Weatherby, Marlin, Sako, and Tikka. They just have that much of a handle on quality control.
All told though, the question was about the Marlin and if it was a good price. I say yes it is a good buy and if you wanted a 30-06 that wouldn't hurt your budget much, that's a good choice. They come built pretty accurate. And as tsr1965 said show influences from both Remington and Savage. And I think (not sure) Remington owns Marlin. Not sure if it's a moot point or not being that Cerberus Financial owns Remington. So they own them both anyway.0 -

I know exactly what you mean ... just putting a little teaser for rog257's consideration. It is indeed a deal of a price. However, I have them on sale around $275ish without scope.
