Simson Suhl SxS Shotgun
I recently purchased a Simson Suhl SxS from a hunting buddy. I am interested in finding out as much as I can about it's history, date of manufacture, value. The serial numbers on barrel & Stock match, I could not get a good picture of stampings on breech, but date stamp is 12/70. From what I have been able to find out German gunmakers quit using the slash in the 1930's and stamped the date with four digits (eg. 1270)

Capt Jack with out pictures we can't tell you much But the 12/70 is the Gage and length of the chambers 12 Ga, 2&3/4 inch Simson is the maker and Suhl is the city in Germany where the shot gun was made. It most likely was made before WW II or after east Germany and West Germany were re-united as Suhl was in east Germany and they did not import many fire-arms to the U.S. during the time there were separate. 0 -
capnjack, Welcome to the forum. I believe you have been misinformed about the meaning of 12/70. My understanding is the 12 means 12 ga and the 70 means the chambers are 70mm (2 3/4").
Perry Shooter, Sorry for the duplication. After a little research to make sure I was correct I posted my response then found that you had already corrected the misunderstanding about 12/70.0
