AR-15 RISER QUESTION

I have a flat top with open folding sights .The front glass block is flat as well . would i need a .5 inch riser or a 1inch riser ? It seems that the front rail on the gas block is just under the rec. flat top rail ,then the rear sight stands 1.5 when open and just under .5 when folded . Im about a foot under at 25 yrds at the range.

    One option would be to clamp the rifle in a vise using a level on the top of the receiver then use the level to determine the difference in height between the rear and front sights.

    It might depend on the front bell size of your scope.
    With the sights being 1.5" above, you will be low at 25yds.

    It all depends on what optic you are mounting. If you are going to use a holographic type sight, then I would go with the short riser. If it were a normal rifle scope, I would get the correct height rings, or mounting system from LaRue Tactical, and forget the riser.

    Clarify this. Are you looking to put a riser under a scope mount or trying to align the open sights to remedy the 12" low @ 25 yards?
    The scope height will be determined by the size of the scope and the way you cheek the stock.

    No optics on this AR . Just open sights . But the front gas block sits just under 1/2 under the rail on the upper .Im thinking of just buying a 1/2 and a 1inch riser to get the front sight where it needs to be .

    There are 2 different front sight. One is meant for mounting on a gas block which is taller then the other meant for mounting on a handguard rail. There are also gas blocks made that are the same hight as the handguard rail.

    Less hardware and bits and pieces if you just change the gas block.
    Even neater, install a gas block with integral folding sight.

    this is the correct answer. you need a front sight that is built for a gas block. yours is built to be on the same rail as the rear
    do not buy a riser
    buy the correct front sight

    You dont need a riser you need a proper front sight designed to work on picatinny gas blocks.

    Tru-glo makes one that I like, I have been useing it for a few months now.

    they make short ones designed to work on hand guards, and taller ones for gas blocks..

    You need the taller sight.
