    Not homemade; though the way they look I could see why you might think so. These are relatively common on the Romanian made guns, and there are slight variations in the shape, etc.

    Well, lets put it this way, the presence of that vertical grip wouldn't sway me one way or the other. I'm sort of neutral on them, but some people really like them. Advantage is that it helps control the gun during recoil (especially if you're firing fast or full auto) and it also helps keep your hand away from the potentially burning hot forearm. If you don't like the vertical grip, swapping out the furniture for something else isn't too difficult or expensive.

    On the gun itself, the Romanian AKs are about the lowest end of the ones available. They'll work OK, but they're sort of rough in terms of parts finish and fitting. A good out-the-door price for a new one would be maybe $450.

    That is pretty typical of the wood that you'll find [V]. I brought this set back with me from Romania and I think that it is far batter looking than anything I've seen offered from Century Arms:

    If you opt for the vertical forearm I suggest that you use the shorter 20 round magazines because the 30 round mags are a bit difficult to get in and out of the rifle with the vertical forearm.

    That part can be swapped out in a matter of moments, for a very few dollars. It wouldn't be a deal breaker if it was missing, or even painted pink.
