OPENING SPAM CAN OF AMMO
Opening 'spam cans' of bulk ammo can be a pain, even if you have the tool....Well my Bro'n-law did a good job for me last night. Going in I would say TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK...after he was done I must say IT WORKED GREAT.
I didn't have the tool, and I was about to start with a cold chisel and 'snips' when he asked "which side are the primers on" ? I had to reply "Both, because of how they are packed".
He tipped his metal-cut band-saw to the vertical position (like regular band saw) and rapped the can on the table, then tipped it up gently to cut the top off. He let the blade ride against the thicker metal 'rim' of the top and made a smooth cut all the way.
About 2 or 3 cardboard box-tops got torn, but everything else was un-touched. Your results may vary....this was 8mm from the '50s.
EDIT: Gruntled mentioned danger...we did use eye/face shields. I know a primer ignition would not propel the bullet...but we felt better behind a shield. This was the only zero injury can opening I have ever had.

I just know it can be dangerous. I opened one can of 7.62 X 39 with the key & cut myself rather badly. The edges are VERY sharp. 0 -
4.5" cut off wheel and a grinder

Just keep your fingers away from the sharp edges same as any other can.0
