Remington Shotgun info....

I have had this shotgun since high school(class of '78). I don't think I have shot it since. Please click on the link http://groups.msn.com/My68BlackFirebird/kelsguns.msnw?Page=1 to view pictures of the gun. There are 6 pictures. Can anyone tell me about it and how much it's worth? Thanx, kel

    Gents,
    I bought a Remington 870 Express 12ga shotgun a couple years ago, used. This gun had 15 rounds through it and sat in a closet for 15yrs (according to previous owner).

    I'm going to use it for Spring turkey but, I'm not sure of the chambering.
    The previous owner doesn't remember but thinks it'll take 3" Magnums.
    There is a warning about 2 3/4in and 3in loads on the barrel but nothing that indicates what the chambering is otherwise.

    Is there a link to a website that'll tell me more about this shotgun?
    Or should I write Remington directly and ask them?

    If the reciever will take 3" mag. it should say EXPRESS MAGNUM on the left side.
    All the barrels will interchange. Don't go bu what it says on them.

    Not all 870 Express receivers will say EXPRESS MAGNUM on the left side. Another thing you can check would be the serial number on the receiver. If the serial number on the 870 Express receiver ends in the capital letter M, it is a magnum receiver, and can safely handle 3 inch magnum shells.

    All good advice. You can always cycle a few rounds of 3" to be certain B4 using. Bring along some 2 3/4 just in case...

    Thank you for the info, gentlemen.

    I just wanted to make sure so I can get the right ammo for it.

    The receiver reads 870 Express and I'll double check the serial number.

    I don't think one needs more than the 2 3/4in for turkey anyway. Heh?


    Just checked the serial number and there is an 'M' on the end of it.

    Thanks again and I'm now good to go.

    Added - I do have 2 3/4in and 3in A-ZOOM dry fire rouns that do cycle through.

    Please be aware that an unfired 3" shell will cycle thru a 2-3/4" chamber with no problem...Measure a 2-3/4" shell after firing and you'll see what I mean...

    If I can cleanly kill turkey with 2 1/2" 16 gauge, there's no reason 2 3/4" 12's won't work.[;)]

    If you have a fired 3" hull try feeding it sideways through the ejection port. A 2 3/4" gun will be very close if not to short.

    "M" in the serial number is the key. You have a 3 inch gun. Good luck with the "T"'s
