Shoot away, just clean the cylinder out after shooting as a slight build up of wax will cause trouble if you start shooting lr again.

    Howdy usmarine,

It is a yes yes. .22 firearms marked Long Rifle will fire Shorts, Long, & Long Rifle.

Though, with some semi-autos, pumps, and bolt actions, may have trouble feeding. But revolver-- good to go.

If your Ruger is a covertable with x-tra cylinder for the .22-Mag, accuracy may not be nothing to write home about. But good enough for small vermin, kerplunkin', and practice.

    +1 to the above.

I shoot thousands of .22 shorts through my revolvers each summer. Low noise, low recoil and easy extraction. What more can you ask for?

    No problem at all.

    Shoot away.

Only one warning, if you shoot a LOT of them, you might get crud buildup in the cylinder ahead of the shorter .22 short cartridges, and that can make inserting regular long-rifle cartridges tough.

If that happens you can fix it by brushing out the cylinder holes well with a wire brush.

If the shorts are older and in the box, they may be "vintage" and worth more to a collector than you'd save in shooting.

In addition, new .22 shorts in my area cost up to 4 times the cost of Long Rifle. You may also find someone to do some creative trading.

Compared to "back in the day," when I was a kid. We paid 20 cents for a box of shorts, 30 for longs, 40 cents for long rifle. Naturally, we shot a lot more shorts.

Shot 100 .22 shorts through my Ruger Single 6 a couple months ago.
Not a problem...and I did do a good cleaning when I got back home.
