Shipping Advice - Handguns - Fedex ??
Greetings All:
I'm a long time BUYER (238 transactions ) but an inexperienced seller.
I want to put some handguns and long guns up for sale, but am having trouble deciphering the "How to", with regard to shipping.
I think I understand the deal with the FFL's and that the post office is a good way to go on long guns. Got that much.
For handguns, is Fedex Express the best way to get the item to the FFL receiving dealer? If so, could someone let me know about what kind of costs, hassles, procedures and such I need to deal with to make things happen. Does $35 cover the handgun shipping cost ?? What do I need to tell the Fedex folks to keep them in a gun friendly mood? I understand they must be informed and may want to inspect the package before it is sealed?
Would I be better off to transfer the handgun to an FFL dealer, have him log it in / out of his books and then have my FFL guy mail it by US Post Office. Too complicated - expensive ??
The shipping headache is the only thing preventing me from putting some items on the auction block.

Paying a local dealer to ship makes sense if he charges a small fee. Mine charges $60 + shipping, so I send it myself.
If you send it yourself, your description should state, "Be sure your FFL will accept delivery from a nonlicensee; I will enclose a copy of my drivers license."
Fedex is fine for you, but you must ship from a company customer counter, not a shipping store. You need to declare the actual contents (& write in on the shipping ticket). It can only go Next Day Air or Airsaver; figure $50-70. Use the online calculator to be exact.
