#57 Shotgun primers
A friend asked me about #57 shotgun primers, they look similar to 209 primers...are they interchangeable? Would they work in a muzzleloader with 209 ignition? I don't know...any help would be greatly appreciated, as he claims to have a carton of 1000 or so...Thanks-Craig

note, they are smaller dia. than std. 209's, remington use these up untill about 1970. I'f you don't have cases that old they are useless. 0 -
would depend on the muzzleloader, any with a closed breech to hold the primer in should work.. 0 -
the 57 is .232 just below the rim and 209 is .244 just below the rim.
Even in a closed breech you stand the chance of gas leakage around the primer0
