How could a person find out what year a springfield 511 shotgun S/S was made and where to get a owners manual any help would be greatly apperciated. 0 -
Springfield is/was? a Trade Name used by Savage on some of their economy grade firearms. It would be one of the standard Savage doubles with a lessor finish and perhaps plainer grade of wood for the stock. You might contact customer service at Savage, for the information you are seeking.
EDIT #1, I don't know about your gun, but some of the older economy grade shotguns made before 1968, didn't have serial numbers. This didn't become a legal requirement till the passage of the GCA 68.0 -
As ruf-snow said, the gun is a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun made by Savage/Stevens.
