Colt Officers Match 38 spl scrimshaw grips
I am trying to track down information on a set of grips on an officers model match 38 special I recently purchased, the gun is beautifully engraved, has a super action, dates to 1958 and has a vent rib sight system, I know Colt did not do the vent ribs but it sure is hard to tell that this is not part of the gun. The gun seems to be unfired but does have a slight cylinder line, the grips may be some type of composite or ???? They have a rampant colt full height on one side and a colts head full height on the other, incorporated into the lower part of the scrimshaw on each side is "S.G.S.". The grips are yellowed but show no cracking or barking as true ivory does, they are very nice and near perfect. From the estate it appears the guns were collected when new by the owner and kept in a safe for decades. I also bought a 6" python that has not been fired, as new, but no box. Photos available.
