stuck firing pin in my FA 83 454
I removed the cylinder to clean the gun after firing it 10 times, now the firing pin is stuck out. I figured out from the schematic how to remove the retainer but it still won't budge. what is the trick?

I got it free and am ready to reassemble it but it seems to hang up every few dozen times I move it in and out. do these guns have inherant problems with the pin? I mean the tolerances are pretty tight. The pistol has only been fired 10 times 0 -
Never had a problem with mine, and if you can't find the problem you should send it back and have them deal with it.. It may be as simple as a tiny burr, and some fine grit sandpaper should solve that one.. 0 -
I DID IT!!!!! and I took the whole gun down to clean it. First time thru with a single action, But here is a hint, make sure your book covers the particular model you are working on because they are not all the same. This is way different than a colt single action with pins instead of screws and springs that cross over each other. Luckily I blew up a schematic from the net and figured out where all the parts go after several trial builds.
Anyway, It looks and works like new again and it will never be fired "just for fun" anymore.
My buddies from deadliest catch wanted to shoot it so.....now it can go back in the safe...0 -
I have a model 83 that I got in 1985...I shot it in silhoutte competition and had the problem of a sticky firing pin....I called freedom arms... When I explained the problem..They exclaimed "OH you have the twelfth one" It turned out that a tray of twelve firing pins had made it to assembly with no heat treatment..The eleven others had already been returned for repair....I sent the revolver out to Wyoming and they fixed it promptly...Without the heat treatment, the hammer end of the pin was mushrooming and would stick in the hole.... Measure both ends to make sure you aren't experiencing the same difficulty...
