S&W & Pachmayr conversion

Thanks to all for your coments & information. I have learned a lot about this unit in the past 24hrs. For not knowing anything at all about this gun & conversion unit, I am very pleased with the find. I have already received several emails from people wanting to purchase the conversion unit from me. Think I'll just hang on to it for a while.

The other day I was in my local gun shop and spotted a S&W 439 in the case that a customer had put on consignment. Dealer said that the man had purchased it new and it had never been fired. Nothing special about the gun except for not being fired. Dealer being a good friend lets me have most consignments for what ever the customer is wanting for them. In this case it was $350.00, which I thought was reasonable for this gun. Then my dealer said, "but wait, there's more with it". He pulled out this wood cased Pachmayr conversion to .22 that also went with it. Said that the owner had purchased it with the gun and it also had not been fired. I have never seen a .22 conversion for a S&W. This is very high quality and was made in Germany. I don't know the value of it, but I think I stumbled on a very good deal.

    Yes, You stumbled onto a very good deal. Pachmayr has always made good quality stuff. That conversion might be worth almost as much as the gun. You did very good.

    Probably made by a outfit by the name of Peters Sthal?, ( or something similar). They made a number of high quality .22 conversions, primarily for sale in Europe. Never heard of one for the S & W 439, but because they were pricy and mostly for sale on the other side of the pond, it's not surprising.

    The second generation S & W's weren't made for a long period of time, likely the pistol and conversion unit dates to the 80's.


    You got a heck of a deal for $350, my friend. I wouldn't be surprised if a S & W collector wouldn't give you $500 just for the conversion unit. Go over to collectors board on the S & W forum, see if any of them ever heard of this conversation unit.

    Hello Pachmayr made sold their conversion unit Made by Peter Stahl for S&W semi autos as well as 1911 Colts and clones and Browning H.P. quality units [^][:)]

    Very nice find. That is almost like hitting the lotto. You should go grab some Power Ball tickets. That peter Sthal conversion is one of the highest quality made. The only thing that comes even remotely close on this side of the pond, would be the Colt ACE unit. There is no doubt in my mind that the whole package you have is worth a grand, or more.
