I have what I thought was an English Mauser in 8X57. It is called an Alpine Special and was imported from Sedgefield, England (no longer exists) for an outfit in Phoenix, Arizona called Mandell's (no longer exists). Any way it has a 16" barrel and a cut-down stock (fairly crude but very responsive). It is a very accurate rifle. Anyway I put a 3200 Elite scope and Harris bipod on it and was going to sight it in for hog hunting. The firing pin broke... sometime between the last time I shot it and then. I took it to the local gunsmith and thought he could just replace the firing pin with a standard Mauser. Nope, he tells me that it had a Sako (two-piece) style firing pin in it and he will have to build me another one. He tells me the action is investment casting rather than milled. So, now I haven't got a clue what it is. The stock has a crack in it and I planned to replace it but now I don't even know what kind of stock to buy. When I get it back I'm going to see if a standard Mauser stock will fit... I have some old ones in the shed. It is turning out to be quite a mystery gun. Any ideas?

    Photographs of the rifle in general with some details of the action would be very helpful for the best responses to your query. There is a Sticky at the top of the forum titled 'Posting Photographs' which will help with this if you aren't familiar with the process.
