#@$!%* Removing Rust from Stainless Guns

Anyone have a fail safe way of removing rust from stainless steel Smith & Wesson revolvers? Steel wool grit 0000 and gun oil may work..

    I use naval jelly with on a cloth (for light rust) and try to avoid steel wool as I have heard that microparticles can embed themselves in the ss and actually promote rusting cause the wool itself is highly prone to rusting.

    Do not use naval jelly on blued surfaces, it will strip it.

    Kroil and a vigorous rub with a white scotch brite. My smiths dont have near the problem I had with my kimber

    A 150 grit sanding sponge matches the Smith finish perfect. Just rub light.
    We use them often.

    +1. I'll sometimes go 220 for smith or use a scotchbrite pad for heavily brushed surfaces (i.e. sig P230 or 1911)

    Red rust on stainless steel is most likely caused by Iron particles exposed to the surface of the metal....Pickling paste (Mild acid paste) will remove the Iron...Until the surface is scratched or abraded, exposing additional iron, there should be no more "rust" problems....
