To my knowledge, there were no downsized helmets made for the Hitler Youth. If they served in a hazardous zone, they would wear either the Model 1934 Feuer Schutz Civic Fire Protection helmet or the standard Lufschutz helmet.

Several years ago, a gentleman walked into our museum with a M1935 German helmet that was dimensionally made for a child. His father brought it back from the war and told him he got it from a cache of Hitler Youth items.
The helmet looked to be the real deal, but alas..he declined to donate it to our collection. I have never seen another example.0 -

Thanks for the replies,I met the gentleman today and bought the helmet.I did some research and I think it is a Luftwaffe,I had never seen the helmet and when he called and described it he said he thought it was a childs, and it is a small helmet. It is in near mint condition with very little wear and the leather lining is stamped 55 and doesn't look like it has been worn, 0n the metal part is 4812.I also bought 7 pink colored glasses( whskey??) with the eagle and swastika and a silver colored metal pin (eagle and swastika. $275.00 am I OK.Do the #s tell when it was made???
Thanks again for your help.0 -
World War II Nazi helmets are notorious for being restored, reproduced and outright faked. I would be skeptical if it's in "mint" condition although it may be original. Still, a mint Luftwaffe helmet would command a higher price than what you paid.
Is the exterior finish smooth or slightly rough? Does it have a maker's name inside the band? Is it single or double decal? Is the color correct for Luftwaffe? Does the paint have any smell to it? Does the leather chin strap or liner have a "new" smell to it?
The "55" is the size (small, 6 1/2 to 6 5/8).
Please post pictures of your helmet, including both the inside and outside of the liner. This thread shows you how to post pics:

I was unable to reply to this with my pictures attached, but was able to post them on a "New Post", titles German Youth Helmet. Let me know what you think.
I have not cleaned the helmet because I was afraid it would take from it's originality. Outside paint is rough textured and inside is smooth.
Thanks again,
