Mosin Nagant Scope questions
i have a Mosin nagant model 91/30 and i am having trouble finding a scope and mounts for it does anyone no what i should look for? i am using it for a hunting rifle so i dont mind not using the original scope i want to keep it cheap and effective..... i am new to the gun and know little about it

Well, you have basically 2 choices- go for a "scout" type mount, with a long eye relief scope mounted where the rear sight is located, OR, go for a scope mounted where they usually go, but requiring that you modify the bolt handle (otherwise, the sticks-straight-out handle whacks the scope.

As mentioned there are two options and each has their plusses and minuses:
1. Remove rear sight and replace with a rear sight scope mount. Then put a long-eye relief (ie pistol or "scout" type) scope on there.
Advantages: Mount can be had cheap, easy to install.
Disadvantages: Long eye relief scope mount limits your field of view. High powered scopes don't work well in this role. . .you probably don't want to go more than 4x.
2. Replace bolt handle with bent one (you either grind off the one you have an solder in a bent one, or buy a pre-bent one), drill and tap gun receiver, then mount scope in conventional way.
Advantages: You can use a normal scope.
Disadvantages: More trouble, more expense, permanent modification to gun, ordinary scope mount means you can't load gun with stripper clips anymore.
Here's my Mosin M44 with route A. The mount is an extra-good one from SK industries that cost $70, but you can get by with less. Scope is a 2x Leupold pistol scope. Doesn't really magnify much, but its FAR easier to aim the gun than with the stock iron sights.
