Flayderman's Guide has a page devoted to the Stevens-Pope barrels, and lists value range of $350 to $950 for standard No. 44 rifles in rimfire calibers, with 25% to 50% additional for those with Stevens-Pope barrels.

The barrels apparently have their own serial numbers, and those with serial number 1 through 1200 are valued highest.

If it is a real Pope I would definately give you more than the Fladermans price. Need good photos of the markings on the barrel. Pope markings and the numbers under the barrel. Should have Stevens serial # and Pope barrel #. Sounds like it does.

Looks like the rifle is a Stevens Ideal Semi-Military rifle No. 404 (Flaydreman 5H-062). Made 1910-1916. The dates of manuf. make it a bit late for A Pope barrel. Pope left Stevens in 1903. I don't know how long the Pope barrel was made after that, but it's possible it is a Pope-Stevens barrel. If its actually marked STEVENS-POPE on the barrel that would be a good sign.

I think you nailed it. My mom insists its a Pope-Stevens, The date would be about right that My Grand dad purchased it brand new. But ya know, never argue with mom.[:D] Thanks for the help guys! its still a tack driver with good ammo.

I just want hard facts so when the time comes to pass it down, the recipients will know the value and history

Planing on selling it or just wanting to know what it is worth? Would like a heads up if it goes on the market.

Not going on the market. I promised my folks when the time comes for me to take full possession of the collection. I will pass it on to family with the same stipulation. It's been a Running rule since 1880.
