In market for one an wondered if any books on how they were issued in 1942 or 1943. Have seen a few an some had blue barrels an blued mags while everything else was parkerized. Plus whole gun parkerized. Just dont know? They all appear to have correct markings but some people say look out for alot of fakes with parts. Just dont want to get burned as you know coast is not cheep for real WW II 1911a1. Any help woulld be nice. Mike

There are so many things to look for, it just takes time, & a lot of looking at guns "in your hands". But, thanks to high res photos, you can pick up a lot of information through websites & the Internet. Check out: http://www.model1911a1.com/
You can start by looking through the GB ATE archives with the "search" feature for "1911".
If you only own 1 book, it should be "Collector's Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols Models of 1911 and 1911A1" (3rd edition, known as "the little book" with only 146 pages) by Charles Clawson. This can be found for ~ $50. Better yet would be "the big book", which costs > $500.
Take your camera with you when go shopping. If you post photos here for us to see, we may be able to keep you from making a mistake.
