Damascus barrel shells
Does anyone know of a safe reload for a 12 gauge with damascus barrels.Its an ithica double barrel.Is there any safe shells for sale anywhere that can be bought?

As long as you keep the pressure under 7K psi, your Ithaca should be fine... assuming that the bores are clean and in good condition.
What you did not mention, is which specific Model you have, and what the chamber length is. The early 12-gauge guns were typically chambered for a 2-5/8" shell, and firing a low-pressure 2-3/4" shell can be very detrimental to both you and the gun.
In answer to your question about "safe" shells, yes, they are available, but you need to know exactly what you need and are buying.0 -
Bert has the correct answer to this question PROVIDING the barrels of your gun are sound. There in lies the real question. A visual inspection is sometimes misleading. Barrels that "look good" on the outside and down the bore can still hide corrosion and flaws, especially under the rib. A good method to determine if any unseen weak spots exist is to pressure test the individual tubes. On my own Damascus guns, I have filled the barrels with oil and applied 100lbs of air pressure for at least two hours. If no oil shows up on the outside, they're good to go. 0
