Winchester model 71 348 Cal.

I own one Winchester model 71, 348 cal deluxe, mfg. 1940. This good has 98% blue with good wood....It has a buckhorn rear site...It also have a Layman 2.5 scope with two dots rather then cross hairs of which is in great shape with 99% blue..Of course the scope is side mounted...

I put this gun on auction twice with what I though was a good price, without a bid...

My question is..should I keep trying to sell the gun as is, or should I remove the scope and sell the scope under a different auction...

Because the gun was taped for the scope how much do you feel the gun has lost value...Thanking you in advance for you opinion

  I would estimate the devaluation for the scope mounting holes would be $100 per hole. The gun and scope would probably bring more if sold separately. If it is a Lyman Alaskan it should sell very well. If the scope mounts are a Griffin and Howe I would separate them from the scope and sell separately also.

  What Herschel said, and he's being very conservative with $100 per non factory holes. No matter how nice your 71 is, true value is all about originality. As has been said, seperate the scope and the mount and sell them independently.

  The value reduction is closer to $1000 per hole[:(].
  
  Winchester collectors (the serious ones with deep pockets) simply do not want a non-factory altered gun. Your target audience for that rifle is the guy who wants to hunt with it, and does not want to pay a small fortune for it.
  
  Whether you leave the scope mounted, or pull it off, you will have a tough time selling it for much more than $1800. From my personal standpoint, I would recommend leaving the scope on it.
