A light coat of good oil. Check the gun occasionally, and re-oil.

Renaissance "micro-crystalline Wax Polish " is what museums use for storage. Other paste waxes are OK but some have small beads of what looks like water when you use them.

EDITIT would take a very GOOD gun shop or Brownells Midway USA or go to web sites and under all products enter Renaissance WAX or go direct to www.picreator.co.uk

Midwest stocks Renaissance wax. It will protect metals for a very long time without worries. Nickle is a stainless steel and stainless steel is a form of nickle FYI. knives ae stored with Renaissance wax as well. $8.00 or so

I'm sorry, but that is not correct. Nickle is an elememt, stainless steels are an alloy. Most stainless steels contaon Chromium, and very few, if any contain Nickel.

The Renaissance wax is the way to go.

Rennaissance Wax does not hold up well on items that are handled.
    I prefer neutral shoe polish.
