Boxes
A lot of collectors seek guns that are in their original boxes. Question is, do they store them in the box or seperately. I have several, but the boxes take up more room in the safe.

I don't store ANY in the boxes . You will damage the box after a time 0 -
Older handguns typically came in cardboard boxes which can be damaged pretty quickly and also had a bad habit of attracting moisture that lead to rusting of the guns stored inside them. The current plastic boxes don't have these issues. I store my handguns unboxed in safes and have a shelf directly opposite the safes where I keep the boxes. 0 -
This is just my personal opinion, but I'd never store a gun, long term, in a box that has any type of Styrofoam or plastic. I've seen guns that appeared to have been damaged by this type of storage. Again, just my opinion and it differs from the opinion and experiences of others. The room my safe is in is humidity controlled as is my safe.
Any of my handguns that came in cardboard boxes with the gun wrapped in a waxed/oiled paper I keep in the original boxes that neatly stack in my safe. These are early guns like Pythons, Troopers, K22's, and Combat Masterpieces. All of my 1st Generation Single Actions are stored in custom heavy cardboard boxes that I order from PROTECTA-GUN with double waxed paper inside. They provide perfect storage and protection in my safe and I've never had a problem storing them this way. They are easy to identify and access and I've never had an issue with humidity or moisture.0 -
I store my boxes seperate from my guns. The boxes are up in the attic and my guns are all in a safe. 0 -
I have collector handguns in their original boxes that have been in the safe for over 30 years with no damage. I'll take the guns out a couple times a year and put rust preventative on them then wrap the gun in new gun wrap paper once a year. This is an question with no real answer. Its all a persons personal thoughts on how they should be stored. 0
