    You as the seller will not need a permit, but in some states the buyer must have a permit, or a concealed carry permit.

    You can transfer it to a resident of your own state (state & local law permitting), or to an FFL or C&R licensee in any state.

    After discussing with family members I have decided to pass the M1911A1 pistol down to my nephew, and keep it in the family. He is a Gulf War veteran and it makes sense to do this. Thank you all for your replies. Peace and blessings to all of you.

    Concur with Perry. Good choice. My grandfather gave me his fathers medals from the Great War for the same reason. I am a gulf war veteran also.
