1100 will not cycle
Have an old (30 yrs)Rem 1100 3in Mag semiauto. I am shooting 2 3/4 number 8's out of it for trap, but it will not cycle the bolt. Any ideas? Is it the the gasket? I have not taken it apart yet.[?]

The shotgun MAY function if you install the proper barrel. The 2&3/4 "barrel has 2 gas ports and the 3" barrel has one or smaller port not enough gas goes through this small port with Light loaded 273/4 inch shell to function gun. Go to gun-show or dealer that deals in used items and buy yourself a 2&3/4 inch barrel. 0 -
I would install a new O ring in it before I did anything else, and make sure the ports are not plugged up.. 0 -
like Perry said, this gun isn't intended to shoot LIGHT 2 3/4" ammo. I had one that would function with HEAVEY target loads but it had to be spotlessly clean and well lubricated. If you intend to do much target shooting buy a 2 3/4" chambered barrel. 0 -
As already suggested, check o-ring. Also, make sure the two metal rings behind the o-ring do NOT have the gap lined up. Then dis-assemble the whole gun and clean ALL the moving parts in the receiver. It's not hard to do and 1100s do not like to be dirty.
And yes I know and have seen folks spray them down with WD40 or like and keep shooting, but trust me a complete cleaning will work wonders.0
