Leupold 10x Scope

I'm looking for a scope for my custom Mauser. What kind of range is a 10X scope still effective?

  10x has been used for a good number of years on military sniper rifles. The longest range I use my fixed 10 is 300 yards, but it is capable of more; I just run out of rifle range at that distance! a fixed 10 power will give you a generous field of view and has less optical interference (fewer lenses to push light through)therefor transmits more light than most variable power scopes. If it was a tactical rifle I would opt for a fixed power. If it is a target situation, then I would go for a 24x (or more)as the field of view is largely of no consequence, and the slight loss of light transmission will likely not deleteriously affect your shots either.

  Effective for what? It would be harder to pick off ground hogs past 500 yards with it, but the military has been picking off people with them in excess of 1000 yards for a long time now........
