Since no one else has input, expert in Smiths or not, I will chime in here. When collecting, or purchasing to keep in a collectible state, I look for subtle variations over the more common collectible versions of any given firearm. If Smith is telling you they only made 300 "14 'ers this last year, I would likely go for it. While rarity does not ALWAYS mean collectibility, consider how much a "3 barreled Python is versus a "8 barreled one. Since they made fewer with the shorter barrel, they wind up being more valuable by virtue of the fact there were just fewer made. In the end you should likely consider what handicap the extra "2 of barrel might make to you....my guess is not much.

    kms1961,

Just looking up a few numbers off the Blue Book, not that it, in itself, is any authority, but here is what I find.

The MSRP of the 12 incher is $1519.00, and the MSRP of the 14 incher is $1419.00. So, if unfired, I would say that the actual selling or market price would be around $1200.00-1300.00. The wholesale price, should be around $1100.00.

hmmm seems strange that a 12" msrp is more then a 14" msrp but then strange things happen i suppose. Get 2 more inchs of steel for 100.00 less? well get's me to a starting point somewhat. thanks kevin
