Winchester model 62/62A question
I would like to learn more about these pump action 22's. I had something similar when I was a kid but I can't rember what model I actually owned back then. Recently I picked up one SN # 138,xxx. It is marked as .22 S, L & LR and Model 62- (not A). From the little I read about these, the SN should make it a 62A model. The slide is the larger/longer slide with 17 grooves, 8"+/-. I am wondering if I bought something that was reassembled from parts? It has the flat spring which is visable when the rifle is taken down. I gave it a spin this past week end and it shoots just fine, maybe just a hair to the left of point of aim. I bought the rifle on condition that I could return it for good reason. If it is something that was cobbled together, I will return it but I'm not sure about how to be certain of exactly what I have. I would think this rifle shold be a model 62A but that is not how the barrel is marked. Thanks for any information
Edit: I gently wiped the stock down last night with rubbing alcohol. It removed a lot of old oil and dust. The stock now shows its grain and looks great. The butt plate appears to be plastic and has Winchester Repeating Arms on it. Both numbers match and I'll post a picture of it as soon as I can. Thank you very much.

As a general rule, but not in ALL cases, the larger forearm is found on the 62A's. Your gun was built in 1942 according to proofhouse. I assume the 2 numbers on the bottom match. If they dont, then you have a "cobbled together" gun. 0 -

Model 62 serial number 138,000 was manufactured in the year 1941. As such, it is most likely a very late transitional Model 62/62A.
