cleaning a mil surp barrel
hello;
never had this problem before.
purchased a mil. surp. rifle to shoot case bullets. to say the barrel was fouled is an understatement. got the copper out, but it's the carbon fouling is my problem.
have used all sorts of cleaning fluids with the same results. mop the barrel with what ever cleaning fluid, cleaning brush through barrel, let sit for hours sometimes, run a patch(s) through barrel.
sometimes it takes several dozen patches before black gunk stops coming out the barrel. repeat process, have the same results.
any suggestions? keep doing what i'm doing? or just be happy the rifle will shoot great groups with both cast and jacket bullets.
thanks for any input.

Don't mix jacketed and cast, and leave it fouled. Just patch out the powder fouling with a powder solvent and oil. Google "c.e. harris" + "the load" + mattern (for an extra keyword.) 0 -
Each layer of crud you remove uncovers a new one, and probably opens some pits in the metal uncovering yet more.
Buy or make an electronic bore cleaner to get it squeaky clean. Just google 'homemade electronic bore cleaner', costs about a dollar, works great.
With cast lead, you could paper patch some bullets too; the paper acts like a very mild abrasive over time, sanding the fouling right out.
Either that or live with a slightly dirty bore.0
