Not to be a wise guy, but the only way I know of to get a Colt frame is in a complete Colt gun.
Caspian makes a good quality part.

Difficult.
Colt never sold frames/receivers. Only completed Commanders.
You will have to stumble onto one, perhaps here at auction, that someone, for some reason, is getting rid of. Joe0 -
Can we assume you have the Commander slide etc. already and are looking for a series 70 frame to match it with? I've been on a few of those chases and none worked out very well. If you insist on an original Colt series 70 Commander frame your best bet will likely be to look for a complete gun with a poor condition or modified slide. Swap out the slides and sell the "spare." My experience has been that a "good deal" on the top half usually became a hassle in trying to match it with a frame and the long run cost exceeded what buying a complete gun in the condition I wanted would have been. Others may have had better experiences. Good luck. 0 -
Brownell's offers 1911 Cmdr type frames by various manufacturers. These are bare frames so you will need a variety of small parts to complete it for service. 0 -
as mentioned, you might find one on the auction side from someone parting out a commander.
brownells offers multiple makes and models. caspian, as mentioned makes a good frame. you can save some money with an essex (the newer ones are good quality)
if you're building a custom gun, also look at Fusion.
just my 2c
