1st Generation Colt SAA- part 3-follow up
Hello
for those of you that followed my journey, i have received info from Colt. They have the records and i am sending for the letter, i was told there are premium charges, i am paying about $300.00 for the letter. They would not give details over the phone, but its my understanding this means the gun my be factory engraved, etc. I am very excited to get the letter and will update when i receive it.

Sounds like you didn't request the premium phone service for $50 more if they didn't provide you with all of the details over the phone. If you had requested those services they would have told you every detail over the phone, you'd have known the exact charge because they would have asked for a credit card, and you'd receive the actual letter in about 2 weeks. Who did you talk to in Archive Services?
Regardless, if it was Factory Engraved then congratulations.
If the letter indicates Factory Engraving, then I'd recommend that you have a knowledgeable Colt collector/dealer examine your Colt. The photos clearly show a refinished Single Action, so that would mean that the engraving has been freshened. In my opinion, at this point, only a hands on inspection by a knowledgeable appraiser would facilitate a fair estimate of its value.0 -
I hope you'll post a picture of the factory letter when you receive it. I know we would all love to see it! 0 -
well, unfortunatly i am not made of money and $300 is pretty steep. so any additional fees were out of the question. I will post the letter as soon as i get it. Thanks for all your input. 0 -
Glad to hear that you have a letter on the way, and I'll be another waiting to hear the news. Good luck! 0
