REMINGTON 870 MAGNUM-RECIEVER SAME AS SUPER OR NOT
Is the 870 express magnum receiver milled from the same steel billet as the 870 express super magnum.I purchased a barrel at a GB.com auction that clearly states it handles 3 1/2 inch shell's but to not fire 3 1/2 inch shell unless in a super mag receiver.Bottom line can I fire a 3 1/2 inch turkey load in my firearm,it IS a 870 express magnum, not super.Thank's for your input... +

The 870 express magnum receiver is designed to shoot 2 3/4 shells and 3 inch magnum shells. The 870 express super magnum is designed to handle 2 3/4 inch, 3 inch magnum, and 3 1/2 inch magnum shells. Barrels often get 'swapped' on 870 shotguns, so be sure and have a barrel that is marked for use with 3 1/2 shells if that is what you are going to be using, and use that barrel on a super magnum receiver. 0 -
Bottom line, the answer to your question is NO. The shell will not clear the ejection port, and the receiver wasn't built for that kind of stress, that being the 3 1/2 inch shell. 0
