Compensated Barrel and Sights

I have a Glock 20C pistol with recently installed nightsights. I have been told that compensated barrels will ruin the sights from residue. I have compensator spray I can use for extended shooting sessions if necessary. What is your thoughts on this. I can get another barrel if necessary as I am flexible on the compensator issue.
