I am looking for a gunsmith that set up a 300 wby to get all of the accuracy possible out of it

I am wanting to put a 26 in Kreiger match grade stainless tube on it and a new stock and a good trigger

I live in central Indiana 46040 zip code but I will ship or deliver it to get it done right. I finally saved the money and convinced my wife that I really needed it. [:D]

When a company has recalled a firearm with no fix, it will be doubtful you will find a legit smith that will work on it- he is WAY out on a liability limb there.

Send it back to Remington and have the 22mag barrel put on it.
If you need a .17, buy a bolt gun.

The actual problem was not a headspace problem, nor a firing pin strike problem. It is these bolts didn't have the mass needed to retard the bolt opening, untill after the pressure went down far enough. This event usually happened when the rifle was shot a bazillion times(which can be done in an auto loader, rather quickly), with out cleaning, and the pressures increased.

Take the smart way out, and get rid of the 597, as they are nothing but a junk heap to start with.
