Do you have any idea how difficult it was to type in Colt Letter & come up with this site?

I did do this but was suggested by GunBroker.com to post here to get helpful information from the experts in case there was a more direct route. I am selling an inherited gun and want to be sure all the information I have is accurate. 0 -
I called colt - ask for archive dept (ext 1343) and have model and s/n for letter of verification. 0 -
A letter from Colt may or may not be a waste of time & money.
It would be best for you to first post photos of it here, & let us take a crack at determining exactly what you have. That, at least, will be free.

If this is a MILITARY colt it is a waste of money to contact Colt in my opinion. a number of us have reference books that can give you the information you seek. that along with detailed up close in focus pictures will allow us to give you a range of Value.
editFirst off we will need the complete serial number and include any letters such as C or X.0 -
Gunchick2,
Welcome here your first few postings. A legit question, and deserves a bit more of answer, me thinks, since you were rightly directed here "as a more direct route"....
As you may have found out from Colt's web-site under "archives", their letter of inquiry will cost $$$.
Before going that route, there are some very knowlegble folks here with the firearm you are wishing info upon so keep checking back. And with their info provided, you may have enough to see if a letter from Colt is worth the cost or not.
What will assist them to assist you is good photos with all markings clearly showing, if possible.
If not possible, describe all the markings. And condition as honestly as can, IE: "good condition" is subjective, so describe why, say, it is not as new out of the box with all detail as you see it.
EDIT And I was beaten to the punch all I said.
EDIT 2To not use up your alloted 10 replies to this posting, use the "edit" button found atop your posts
Hope this helps,
