Star 9mm

I have a Star Super SA 9mm with wooden grips and a black enamel finish. I purchased this gun at an auction. SN is 32355. Could anyone tell me how to tell if it uses 9mm or 9 mm Largo ammunition? Also anything about the pistol that would be helpful.

    I just came across a Star 9mm made in Spain. Serial # 272666. Trying to find out whatever anyone knows about it.History, Value etc...

    First, if the pistol is marked "Star" it was made in 1919 or later as that is when the name was trademarked.

    I can't find a reference for a model 1909.

    The model designation of most Stars is on the bottom of the butt just around the magwell. The model will tend to be a letter.

    From the serial number I'm going to guess your's is chambered for 9mm Largo. This IS NOT the 9mm they sell at Walmart. I would strongly suggest you do not shoot this pistol until you figure out the caliber as, well, kabooms hurt.

    A Star Model B is chambered for 9mm Parabellum (aka 9mm Luger and 9x19). This IS the 9mm they sell at Walmart. Some Model B pistols were sold to Nazi Germany during World War II. I don't have my books handy at work, but you can tell by the serial number if the pistol was made for the Germans as the factory kept good records. Some were imported from Bulgaria with fake Nazi proofmarks probably about 10 years ago, so you should know that.

    There is also other good information on that site if you surf around. Please note, you may have to take off the grips to find the proofmarks.

    A Star Model B will range in value from about $150 for a strict shooter (beater) to $300 for mint condition. World War II German pistols should carry a premium, but I'm not current on that.

    In any event, you should have a good, fun shooter.
