S&W mod 29
I have a mod.29 44 mag the serial mumber begins with S171 and it has a 1 stamped above the serial number any help with the history and value of this would help greatly

There should be 3 numbers after the 171 and it was made in 1957. Smith began using model numbers in 1957 at about serial number 179000. The "1" is an assembly number. Is your gun actually stamped model 29 in the yoke? or are you calling it a model 29 because its a .44 Mag?
Posting a picture would be nice because gun values depend greatly on condition. Those "S" prefix .44's are sought after by Smith collectors and the value could range anywhere from $500 to $1500.0
