MARTINI CARTRIDGE CONVERSION

I HAVE HEARD FROM A FEW PEOPLE WITH MARTINI'S THAT THEY CAN BE CONVERTED FOR BETTER BALLISTICS. CAN ANYONE TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT IS AVAILABLE AND MAYBE SOME BALLISTICS?

    there are several action sizes, which are you talking about?. as to conversions in general, any martini can be rebarrled. I'm currently working on 2 (.38/55 and .50/90 sharps). I've also got martini's in .22 l.r., .22 hornet, .303 brit.,.32/40, .45/70 and .50/110.

    I had one done in .357 magnum and it was a nice little shooter. Had a 1 in 14" barrel so it handled most loads well.

    The large 577-450 can handle calibers based on large rimmed cases.
    All Martinis require less work if rimmed cases are used.
    Snapps gunshop, which may now be out of business, used to make nice rimless case extractors for HiWall Winchesters and Martinis.
    I've seen some beautiful .222 conversions on the Australian Cadet Martini.
    On the advice of P.O.Ackley, I built two conversions to his .219 Ackley Improved Zipper based on a blown out 30-30 case & having the ballistics of the later .225 Winchester.
    One was on a 577/450 action that worked out well.
    The other was on a Cadet Martini which didn't.
    The Cadet Martini bulged the chamber on a Premium Douglas barrel because chamber wall thickness proved to be insufficient for that large diameter case, otherwise the action is strong enough.
    Both actions need reduction of the firing pin diameter if high pressure cartridges are used.
    I wouldn't go any larger in case diameter than the .357 on the Cadet.

    IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE 310 CADET SOME OF THE MOST POPULAR CALIBERS WERE THE 357 PISTOL ROUND AND THE 218 BEE OF HORNET--BUT WITHOUT REBARRELING THERE IS A CALIBER, THAT, I HAVE IN A 357 NECKED DOWN TO 8MM AND CAN PUSH A GAS CHECKED 175 GRAIN LEAD, UP TO 1800 FPS ALSO PLAIN LEAD BASE BELOW 1400 FPS SHOOT 1/2 IN GROUPS ALL DAY LONG AT 50 YRDS--OF COURSE THE BEAUTY OF THIS ROUND BESIDE THE POWER, IS THE FACT THAT IT IS ACCURATE, EASY TO RELOAD, AND DOES NOT ENTAIL CHANGING THE BARREL T.

    CAN YOU GIVE ME ANY MORE DETAILS ON THE ROUND YOU ARE USING IRON HAMMER? THIS SOUNDS LIKE IT COULD BE AFFORDABLE TO DO.
