Help; I cant buy a gun

I have scoured the web to find the info I need and have come up short. I have even emailed the DOJ and some lawyers and received no response. My biggest problem is that I live in California(I know, enough said right?) Anyway, I have been denied the right to purchase a firearm because of crimes I committed as a juvenile(non-violent crimes that involved no weapons). I was told very little info from the DOJ agent who contacted me. He said I have been red flagged until I am 30 years old. Does anyone know if I must go to court after Im age 30 to have my rights restored or do they automatically go away? Also, I have the chance to move to the great state of Washington. I cannot find info as to if they have this same stupid law or not. If I establish residency there will I be able to purchase a firearm even though I am not yet 30? Any accurate info would be a tremendous help for me and thanks in advance!

    If you have a juvenile record, it can be expunged, AKA erased, by court order. You might contact an attorney to see what it takes to get it done. From what I understand its not a huge deal.

    I tried to buy a shotgun when I was 21 and it failed during the background check......the DOJ

    There are times when free advice from anonymous people on the internet are not as good as hiring your own attorney, especially in matters of state law. Time to get one of your own or go down to one of the legal walk in clinics. If all of your transgressions were tried as a minor, then an attorney should be able to help you.

    The information you were given by the agent is ridiculous.

    However, there may be some reason why you can't buy a gun, now or ever; we are not going to delve into your personal life & history on an internet forum to figure out what's going on here. The procedure for finding why you were denied can be found in Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide (ATF P5300.4), downloadable from the ATF website. If you still can't figure it out from that, you will need to do what the guys suggest: pay for legal advice.

    Pick up a game issue and find a lawyer add inside it that specializes in Ca gun law.

    Emailing the Dept of Justice at random for an advisory opinion is a waste of time.

    I have no idea what it means to be "red flagged". Either you are legally permitted to purchase a gun or you aren't.

    If you aren't, there has to be some specific State or Federal law prohibiting your ownership. This should NOT be up to the individual and/or arbitrary discretion of law enforcement agencies, though unfortunately, in many part of the country, (including in MA) it still can be. There might be a CA state law prohibiting individuals with juvenile criminal histories from obtaining guns. . .that I don't know.

    I don't know how old you are, but I wouldn't sit around waiting for months or years until you turned 30 to look into this. Probably nothing is going to happen unless/until you take proactive action.

    My advice is the same as the others here. Your best bet it to hire an in-state attorney who has experience specifically in the area of gun law, to help you with this.

    They might be able to get you gun rights now.

    If you have committed crimes prior to many years, you *MIGHT* be able to have your criminal record expunged (ie erased/reversed) with the approval of a judge. A good lawyer can help you with that.

    Good legal advice doesn't come cheap, so you might expect to pay a good bit of cash out of pocket on retainer to hire a lawyer. Be prepared to negotiate a price up front; for a lawyer truly experienced in this area, no new legal research should be necessary, limiting billable hours.

    Just about every gun show I have been to in the area of California I am from has a lawyer handing out cards or there is a pile of cards sitting one a table.
